Meditation: It’s Not as Hard as You Think

Meditation is a lot more simple than most people make it out to be. There are numerous kinds of meditation simply because there are many ways and places you can meditate. You can do it anywhere for any length of time. Thinking deeply about the meaning of words in a book your reading is meditating. Praying to God is meditating. And to some, just taking one simple, conscious, deep breath is a meditation. I’ll get more into this in another blog about the different kinds of meditation out there.

Meditation is so good for your body and it is so easy to do because there are so many different ways to meditate that there is bound to be a way that works for you.

You don’t have to sit.

If you aren’t the sitting-on-a-special-pillow-while-trying-to-think-of-nothing type, you can do a different meditation. Meditation isn’t always all about trying to empty your head of all thoughts, sometimes it’s about filling your head with thoughts. You can focus on a list of things you love about yourself or try to persuade yourself that you can easily do that pile of dishes you’ve been dreading to do today. If you are troubled about something, lay on your bed, turn on your favorite music, and let yourself think about it and work through it. Yes, that is a meditation, too! Meditation is doing anything consciously; it’s really feeling your soul while it is doing something. Eating mindfully is a meditation because you are consciously listening to your body as you are eating a meal.

Silence isn’t always golden.

If you’re the kind of person that does not like to be quiet or be in a quiet place, there’s a meditation for that, too! You can look in the mirror and tell yourself how great you are and talk yourself into doing something you feel you can’t do. Singing is a meditation. You can pray. You can say certain things that can help heal certain places in your body (more on that later). You can listen to uplifting music and think about the words.

Find joy in being fidgety.

Meditation can be active, too. You can go for a walk and let yourself feel every step of the way. You can do a stretch and think about sending oxygen deep into the area that is being stretched. You can run and let yourself feel the air blowing in your face and hair. Literally, anything can be turned into a mediation!

Meditation is literally just a fancy way of saying, “live in the moment,” or, “chew your food!”

So, how can we meditate? Anyway. Anytime. Anywhere, that’s how.
